Régis Gizavo was born in 1959 in the South of Madagascar. He won a RFI Discovery Prize in 1990. He played with Cesaria Evora, Lenine, Christophe Maé, i Muvrini, Mano Solo, Marc Berthoumieux, giving a new sound to the accordion. With other Malagasy stars like Jaojoby, Justin Vali, and Erick Manana he created the MADAGASCAR ALL STARS project and also together with D’Gary and Monika N’java in the TOKO TELO project.  His original compositions for the film were inspired by the archives and testimonies of the 1947 uprising in Madagascar. Régis Gizavo died in 2017, when he had only recorded demos for the film's soundtrack, they were integrated  in the soundtrack just as he recorded them, without additional arrangement, you can sometimes even hear his fingers on the keys, to keep intact the spirit and the emotion of his inspiration.

ADY MAFY”, a poignant song about the harshness of the war (Ady = war, Mafy = hard), evokes the time of the departure of the young Malagasy soldiers for WWII, leaving their loved ones behind in their distant island, wondering who will take care of them?  Unpublished Song (vocals and accordion) by Régis Gizavo

"SAMBO DE GERA", composed in 1977 by DAMA, founder of the famous group MAHALEO, tells the story of a battle ship that took Malagasy soldiers to WWII. Few soldiers came back, with only one shoe, a shirt or a hat with holes... This is a new recording made for the film in a bluesy solo by DAMA (Vocals, guitar and harmonica).

« Rano… Rano…» was a magic formula  used in the anti-colonial uprisings in Madagascar, ment to transform the enemy's bullets into water. "RANO"  became the emblematic song of the resistance. This CD includes three versions: an instrumental version by Régis Gizavo. (11), an archive recorded in 1948 (12), and a cover by the Men's Choir of Madagascar.

The anthem of the MDRM (or "Madagasikara Tannindrazanay") is the song of the Malagasy separatists. It was prohibited during French colonization. The two original recordings by Berthe Raharisoa and the Men's Choir of Madagascar were made for the film.
